Free Troubadour Dali!
Euclid Records is a unique record store, and has a unique
roster of great music on its record label. So naturally, you should expect a
unique promotional event, perhaps the first of its kind. On Saturday, Sept. 15,
at 2 pm, Troubadour Dali will perform live in the store to celebrate the
release of “Drift,” a brand new song on flexi-disc. Troubadour Dali was voted
the Best Psychedelic Band in St. Louis
in the 2012 Riverfront Times Reader’s Poll, so the decision was made to give
back the love with a free song and live appearance. If in the process, the band
picks up new fans lured by the charm of a free release on an old-fashioned
format, so much the better. Euclid Records, by the way, is located at 601 E.
Lockwood in Webster Groves,
MO.
Troubadour Dali was the first band signed to and released on
the Euclid Records record label. Their two albums, Troubadour Dali and Let’s
Make It Right, have been winning fans in St. Louis
and across the Midwest, as the band has toured
whenever and wherever a gig could be had. The line-up may have changed these
past seven years since the band originated, but Troubadour Dali’s sound has
remained focused and dynamic behind the songwriting, vocal, and guitar talents
of leader Ben Hinn from the beginning. Swirling, kaleidoscopic guitar parts
form layers of sonic exploration as the bass and drums provide a hypnotic pulse
and Hinn’s vocals paint dreamscapes of wonderment and mystery.
The flexi-disc was a familiar format back in the 60s and
70s, when magazines would frequently include the cheap, extremely thin (and
entirely bendable, to its misfortune) vinyl sheets as ways to provide audio
commentary or samples of music. The format never cost much to produce, so it
was almost always available as a free offering. That’s why it’s the perfect way
to promote a young band in this new era of vinyl rejuvenation. As younger music
fans are returning to LPs and 45 rpm releases, it only makes sense to release a
free sample in a format which can be played on the turntable. For those
old-fashioned listeners, the song is also available as a digital download at
troubadourdali.com.
