Rough Shop Holiday Live at Euclid Records

Euclid Records is excited to announce an in-store performance by St. Louis’s own Rough Shop at 4 pm Saturday, Dec. 4. This will be a sneak preview of music Rough Shop will be performing at their 7th Annual Holiday Extravaganza to be held Friday and Saturday Dec. 10 and 11 at Focal Point in Maplewood. Over the years, these shows have been among the highlights of the holiday season in St. Louis, and it is a delight to bring some of that good cheer to the Euclid Records stage. Euclid Records is located at 601 East Lockwood in Webster Groves.

Rough Shop has been a fixture on the local music scene these past seven years. The band consists of John Wendland and Andy Ploof, both former members of One Fell Swoop; Anne Tkach, formerly of Nadine and Hazeldine; and Spencer Marquart. Rough Shop has released three self-produced albums. Far Past the Outskirts came out in 2006; Here Today was released in 2008; and Just Because It Was Christmas, featuring 8 original holiday songs and 3 covers, appeared last year.

John Wendland is also the host of Memphis to Manchester, one of the most popular radio programs on 88.1 KDHX-FM. His love for Christmas and seasonal music has been displayed on that program for years, and there are probably only a handful of holiday music collectors in the country with a deeper knowledge of obscurities in that area. What started as a fun way to share some of that love by performing songs live has turned into a gigantic annual proposition, with the Holiday Extravaganza including multiple guest stars from a variety of other St. Louis bands past and present. Rough Shop plans to bring at least one or two of these guests with them for the Euclid Records appearance.

Euclid Records is pleased to bring local and national artists of varying styles to perform on the store stage whenever possible. Rough Shop has, in fact, performed at Euclid Records once before, but this is the first time in nearly three years.

In addition, Saturday, Dec. 4 is the date for the 3rd Annual Old Orchard Merchants Cookie Swap and Recipe Exchange. Tasty treats will be available from a variety of local shops in the area of Euclid Records.

Press Release - New Edward Burch Jay Bennett Tribute 7"

Euclid Records is proud to announce the release of “Hotel Song” b/w “Second Last Call,” the latest 45 rpm single in the on-going Euclid Sessions Series. Recorded in June when Bennett’s long-time friends and sometime musical partners Edward Burch and John Horton performed live in the St. Louis Euclid Records store, the new single contains strong interpretations of songs Bennett wrote for the album he was working on at the time of his sudden death in May, 2009. The single will be released Nov. 15, on what would have been Bennett’s 47th birthday.

Jay Bennett is best known for the time he spent in the popular pop/rock band Wilco, but his talents as a singer/songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, engineer, and producer reached throughout a large segment of the independent rock world of the last 25 years. He was a founding member of Titanic Love Affair, he played with Steve Pride and the Blood Kin (a band which also included John Horton briefly), he released a wonderful duet album with Burch, and four solo albums before he died. Burch and other friends of Bennett helped prepare the first posthumous release, “Kicking at the Perfumed Air.”

Each release in the Euclid Sessions series of live recordings is strictly limited to 300 copies. All other releases in the series donate $1 for each copy pressed to the New Orleans Musicians Relief Fund, but for this release, those dollars will go to the Jay Bennett Foundation, an organization supporting music and education, two of Bennett’s life-long passions. More information can be found at http://rockproper.com/JayBennettFoundation/ .

All the Euclid Sessions 45s are released in exquisite packaging with the back sleeve designed by Firecracker Press, a terrific graphic and letterpress printshop here in St. Louis. This single has a beautiful silk-screened cover designed by artist Jason Munn, who individually signs and numbers each copy. Subscribers to the Euclid Sessions series will receive a special limited edition pink vinyl version of the record.

Plans for future releases include the first Euclid Sessions 10” EP in December, from Detroit garage-rockers the Sights; a Peter Case 7” in January, with art from one-time St. Louisian and indie-rock art legend Art Chantry; and new 7” from the Spampinato Brothers, Chuck Prophet, and JC Brooks and the Uptown Sound. Euclid Records will also be releasing the debut CD from Sleepy Kitty, and a new EP from Troubadour Dali in upcoming months.

There have been eight previous 45s in the Euclid Sessions series – one each by Steve Wynn & the Miracle 3, the Hard Lessons, Ian MacLagan, Peter Holsapple and Chris Stamey, Troubadour Dali, the Bottle Rockets, and Future Clouds and Radar. The release by Terry Adams and the Rock and Roll Quartet has sold out already. For further details on the singles released so far, visit www.euclidsessions.com.

The 45s are sold exclusively through the websites of Euclid Records (www.euclidrecords.com and www.euclidnola.com) and in both the St. Louis and New Orleans locations. Euclid Records is located at 601 East Lockwood, St. Louis, MO 63119, and 3401 Chartres Street, New Orleans, LA 70117.
